The American choral conductor and music lecturer, David J. Recca, obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in Composition (20010-2005) and his Performer’s Certificate in Vocal Coaching from Purchase College, SUNY (2001-2006); his Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting from the Eastman School of Music,University of Rochester (2006-2008). He studied Choral Conducting at Yale School of Music (2011-2018) and obtained there his Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in Choral Conducting (2012-May 2014). He has studied conducting with Marguerite Brooks, Jeffrey Douma, and William Weinert.
David Recca is currently a lecturer at the Conservatory of Music of Purchase College, SUNY, where he directs the Purchase Chorus and Purchase Chamber Singers, and teaches a variety of undergraduate courses including music history, music theory, ear training, and conducting.
David Recca has served as Assistant Music Director at New Amsterdam Singers in New York City (since 2014); Artistic Director at Southern Connecticut Camerata in Norwalk, Connecticut (since 2015); Artistic Director at Purchase Chorus and Purchase Chamber Singers (since 2015). He is the newly appointed Artistic Director of the New York City Master Chorale (since July 2021).
David Recca has served as assistant conductor to Mercury Opera Rochester, principal assistant conductor to the Yale Camerata, and artistic director to Madrigalia Via, whose performances were hailed as “sinfully blissful” by the Wall Street Journal. He has prepared choirs for conductors such as Helmuth Rilling, David Hill, Masaaki Suzuki, Simon Carrington, Erwin Ortner, and Sir Gilbert Levine. He currently lives in Danbury, Connecticut. |
