The German tenor, pianist and music pedagogue, Wolf Reinhold, attended the Musisches Gymnasium Leipzig; from 1945 he was a member of the Thomanerchor Leipzig under Günther Ramin, studied at the Hochschule für Musik Halle/Leipzig,, majoring in piano and singing, state examination 1958 "1 with distinction".
Wolf Reinhold was initially permanent tenor in the im Rundfunkchor von Radio DDR (Sender Leipzig). He got married, and had 3 children (the soprano Friederike Holzhausen is his daughter). He started and extensive concert activities as a concert and oratorio singer, member of the Capella Lipsiensis, Capella Fidicinia and Capella Academia Hallensis; participated in numerous radio productions;
Wolf Reinhold was voice trainer in the Thomanerchor Leipzig; singing pedagogue at the Karl-Marx-Universität Leipzig; from 1977 to 1996 lecturer at the Hochschule für Musik "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" in Leipzig, main teacher for the subject of Lieder performance and vocal accompaniment; accompanist for students majoring in singing; extensive activity as piano accompanist at national and international competitions (BachWettbewerb, Schumann-Wettbewerb). Since the early 1960's, he taught piano and singing at the Evangelischen Kirchenmusikschule in Halle (Saale), where he shaped an entire generation of church musicians for 20 years.
Wolf Reinhold was known as a singer in the whole of Central Germany and far beyond. For decades he was one of the leading tenors of the church music scene in the GDR. In addition to his appearances in the music centers, was never shamed to travel to the “provinces” of church music, always traveling by train and well equipped with bread and a thermos. For many church musicians he has been an indispensable, always reliable tenor soloist.
Much too late - not until 1992 - Wolf Reinhold was appointed professor in Leipzig. All the years in the GDR this was denied to him, because politically he had not ingratiated himself with the real existing regime before 1989. That also deserves the greatest respect!
In 1996 Wolf Reinhold suffered a serious illness, unfortunately it was no longer possible to resume his various activities. He lived bravely with this disease for almost 24 years, the active musician became an enthusiastic concert-goer and radio and CD listener. He enjoyed traveling with the children and grandchildren very much. On April 7, 2020 he died in Leipzig. |
