The German pianist, Roger Roman Dretzler, received his first piano lessons in 1972. From 1972 to 1978 he was a student at the Städt. Konservatorium Dortmund with Doz. Brigitte Schwartze-Schäfer.From 1978 to 1981 he continued his studies with Sybille Thiagarajan, a former student of Stefan Askenase. In 1981 he enrolled at the Hochschullaufbahn for two years as a junior student of Professor Roland Pröll at the Hochschule für Musik Dortmund. In 1983, he completed his artistic piano studies with Professor Gregor Weichert at the Musikhochschule Münster. During his studies, Roger Roman Dretzler was an active participant in numerous master-classes with Conrad Hansen, Edith Picht-Axenfeld, Bruno-Leonardo Gelber, Vitaly Margulis, Hans Leygraf, Peter Feuchtwanger, as well as participants in international chamber music courses. After completing his university studies he learned with Aliza Kezeradze-Pogorelich and Ivo Pogorelich and rounded off his artistic training with them in London as a "private student".
After the death of Aliza Kezeradze-Pogorelich in 1996, Roger Roman Dretzler won Ivo Pogorelich as a mentor and finished the private study on the recommendation of Professor Marina Ambokadze at the Ino-Mirkovich-Akademie in Lovran//Croatia, a branch of the Moscow PI Tchaikovsky Conservatory, in autumn 1997. During his private studies he won the scholarship of the Stiftung Kunst und Kultur des Landes

Roger Roman Dretzler is a founding member of the Rossignol-Klavierquartetts.
Besides his concert activity, Roger Roman Dretzler holds since 1998 a teaching positions at the Musikhochschule Münster in WWU and the Institut für Musik und Musikwissenschaft der TU Dortmund
aus.
