The Schiersteiner Kantorei (= SK) won the Culture Prize of the Landeshauptstadt Wiesbaden in 1990. By the high artistic requirement for performing choral music, by weighty co-designing of Wiesbadener Bachwochen and Musikherbst Wiesbaden, with the orchestral concerts of the Bach-Ensembles Wiesbaden and the chamber music of the Schiersteiner Vespermusiken (the Wiesbaden forum for early music), the SK enriches and shapes for 40 years the music life of the state capital: in Wiesbaden Baroque Kleinod, at the Christophoruskirche Schierstein and at the Marktkirche Wiesbaden, to which the SK belongs.
Further performance places are the Wiesbaden's Kurhaus and the big building of Cistercians of Kloster Eberbach in Rheingau. In the centre of the SK's work stand the works of J.S. Bach as well as of George Frideric Handel, whose most important works are regularly performed. The repertoire of the choir includes, besides the most important oratorios, many a-cappella-music of the 16th to 20th centuries.
The SK is led for more than 30 years by Martin Lutz. They have participated in broadcast, TV and CD recordings, and concert tours to England, France, Portugal, and Switzerland). The SK consists of about 130 singers, but can also perform chamber choral works. |
