The American pianist, Christopher Schindler, studied with Joyce Ways, Randolph Hokanson, Neal O'Doan, Marlene Thal, Bela Nagy, and Karl Ulrich Schnabel. The have been his major influences. He was
a finalist in the Villa-Lobos Piano Competition in Rio de Janeiro.
Christopher Schindler performs a wide variety of classical music in solo and chamber music settings. As a soloist with orchestra, he has presented concertos of Béla Bartók, Dmitri Shostakovich, and Gershwin as well as those of Mozart, L.v. Beethoven, and Sergei Rachmaninov. He performed Franz Liszt's Dante Sonata in Bellagio, Italy in a solo recital sponsored by the Rockefeller Foundation. He was pianist for Oregon Ballet Theatre's Rhapsody in Blue and appeared in a two-piano production of My Fair Lady in 2005, produced jointly by Portland Center Stage and the Dallas Theater Center. He has never had a "big career" measured by many large concerts a year, but he is known in some circles as a well kept secret among aficionados.
Christopher Schindler resides in Portland Oregon. He released a CD, “Anthology: Early Live Performances”, with music of J.S. Bach, Mozart, Arnold Schoenberg, and Schubert and a new CD in 2007 dedicated to the music of Franz Liszt. |
