The German mezzo-soprano, Alexandra Schmid, studied singing and singing education at the Musikhochschule in Saarbrücken with Professor Renate Stoll and Uwe Götz and completed both studies in 2009. Master-classes with Ulf Bästlein, Charles Spencer, Gudrun Bär and Claudio de Maglio gave her important impulses for her artistic work.
On the opera stage Alexandra Schmid delights in roles of her voice including Hänsel in Engelbert Humperdinck's in Hänsel und Gretel, Sorceress in H. Purcell's Dido and Aeneas and Orfeo in Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice.
Already during her studies, a busy concert activity in the area of the oratorio has been built up and led Alexandra Schmid to other European countries. Her engagements include the Frauenkirche in Dresden and the Thomaskirche in Leipzig. In the Gewandhaus in Leipzig she performed the role of Polewezer girl in a concert performance of the opera Prince Igor and the alto solo in the Messa di Milano by G. Rossini. She works, among others, with the MDR Rundfunkchor Leipzig, Leipziger Barockorchester, Staatskapelle Halle, Bamberger Symphoniker and Münchner Bachsolisten; and sings under conductors such as Howard Arman, Philipp Ahmann, Michael Alber, Francesco Angelico, Gotthold Schwarz and Georg Christoph Biller. She is a freelancer for the Rundfunkchöre des NDR and the RBB. Since 2013, she has a permanent engagement in the Rundfunkchor Leipzig. Since 2015, she is also a member of Leipziger Bach-Solisten (Director: Georg Christoph Biller).
Alexandra Schmid is regularly involved in CD radio and television recordings. She currently lives in Leipzig, Germany. |
