The German bass and conductor, Felix Schuler-Meybier, was introduced to music early on by his parents (both musicians) and received piano and violin lessons at an early age. In the Christophorus-Kantorei Altensteig he was able to enjoy a vocal musical education at the local Musikgymnasium, consisting of individual voice training and up to 40 concerts per year. He studied at the Staatlichen Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart, first school music majoring in violin (Professor Melcher, Sabine Kraut) and emphasis singing (Professor Bernhard Jäger-Böhm) and choral conducting (Professor Dieter Kurz). Outside the Hochschule, he received important impulses from Veronika Stoertzenbach. This was followed since the winter semester 2008-2009 by Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in orchestral conducting with a profile in theater music at the Hochschule Stuttgart (Professor Per Borin) and Hochschule Lucerne (Professor Ralf Weikert). He took part in various master-classes, including with Jorma Panula, Karl-Anton Rickenbacher, Morten Schuldt-Jensen and Daniel Reuss.
Felix Schuler-Meybier has conducted numerous orchestras and choirs in opera and concert, including the Südwestdeutsches Kammerorchester Pforzheim, Chor & Orchester des Staatstheaters am Gärtnerplatz, Stuttgarter Philharmoniker, Stuttgarter Kammerorchester, Kurpfälzische Kammerorchester Mannheim, Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen Luzerner Sinfonieorchester, Filharmonia Oltenia Craiova (Romania), Chor & Orchester der Universität Stuttgart and Kammerchor Coro per Resistencia Neuertingen (of which he was appointed director in October 2010). At the conductor's podium Baden-Württemberg he was able to assert himself several times in the finals and was selected as a concert conductor. He conducted numerous opera performances, including Puccini's La Boheme, Offenbach's Orphee aux enfers, W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni, Benjamin Britten's The Beggar's Opera and George Frideric Handel's Semele. In 2013 he made his debut in Munich with W.A. Mozart's Cosi fan tutte, at the Gärtnerplatztheater he recently conducted Kalmnan's Die Faschingsfee and Purcell's King Arthur.
Felix Schuler-Meybier has been engaged in the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich since the 2012-2013 season, first as Deputy Choir Director and since 2015 as Choral Director and Kapellmeister. Since January 2018 he is choir director of Belcanto Kammerchor München.
In addition to his full-time job as a conductor, Felix Schuler-Meybier is also active as a singer (bass) and participated in a variety of CD, radio and television recordings, including with the Kammerchor Stuttgart (Director: Frieder Bernius), Gächinger Kantorei Stuttgart, Chamber Choir of Europe, Ensemble KlangKunst, as well as a soloist. He is also assistant to Veronika Stoertzenbach with the Akademischen Chor and the Orchester der Universität Stuttgart. |
