The Bach-Chor Siegen (Siegen Bach Choir) was founded in1973 by Ulrich Stötzel. The Choir can comprise from 20 to more than 100 singers. On the one hand, this allows for a repertoire that includes works from nearly all stylistic eras, and on the other enables a stylistic approximation to the respective challenges these pose to musicians. The smaller ensemble - Collegium Vocale Siegen - specializes, for instance, in elaborating the rhetorical and affective intentions of so-called ‘early music’. The choir plays concerts at home and abroad. Its appearances have also taken them to Israel, England, France, Italy, Russia and the Benelux countries. In addition, it has made frequent guest appearances at major music festivals (Rheingau Music Festival, Thuringian Bach Weeks, Handel Festival in Halle (Saale), Telemann Festival in Magdeburg, MDR Summer of Music, Festival Internazionale di Musica e Arte Sacra ROMA), in Leipzig's St. Thomas Church and the Dresden's Frauenkirche, as well as regular appearances in the Cologne Philharmonic’s renowned “Das Meisterwerk” concert series. The current director of the choir is Ulrich Stötzel.
Musical productions at broadcasting stations such as WDR, HR, DLF featuring works from nearly all epochs and the creation of CD series testify to the high quality of the choir’s work. |
