The soprano, Clara Steuerwald, grew up in a musical home in Landau in der Pfalz. She received a varied musical education from an early age. As a teenager she had her first solo performances, led several choirs, played church services and began to rehearse, including as a long-term member of the Evangelischen Jugendkantorei der Pfalz under the direction of her father LKMD Jochen Steuerwald. She studies in church music and choir conducting at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart. She is currently studying at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig with Professor Carola Guber. She is a long-term scholarship holder of Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now e. V. and winner of the Internationalen Sächsischen Sängerakademie Torgau and was a finalist in this year's "Leipziger Gesangspreis".
As a concert soloist, Clara Steuerwald is attracting attention in Germany and Austria, and recently made her successful opera debut at the Oper Leipzig. A diverse concert repertoire will accompany her through the 2024-2025 season. In addition to several performances of J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor BWV 232, Johannes-Passion BWV 245 and Weihnachts-Oratorium BWV 248, the program includes church music works by W.A. Mozart with the Evangelischen Jugendkantorei der Pfalz and the Domchor Augsburg, Felix Mendelssohn's Lobgesang-Sinfonie with the Staatskapelle Halle in Merseburg and Bruckner's F minor Mass with Elbipolis Barockorchester Hamburg. She will also be making her debut with Johannes Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem in Leipzig.
Clara Steuerwald demonstrates her stage talent in regular opera productions. In the current season, she will be singing the Taumännchen in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel und Gretel, Erste Fee in Amadis, Johann Christian Bach's Der Ritter, and Delia in Rossini's Il Viaggio a Reims at the Oper Leipzig.
As a soloist, Clara Steuerwald has performed with the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Hamburger Ratsmusik, Barockwerk Hamburg, Dresdner Barockorchester and the Kammerorchester der Jenaer Philharmonie, among others. Appreciated for her ensemble qualities, she works with Vox Luminis (Director: Lionel Meunier), the Lautten Compagney Berlin (Director: Wolfgang Katschner), Polyharmonique and Leipzig ensembles such as Calmus Ensemble Leipzig, Ensemble 1684 and Opella Musica. Her time in the Kammerchor Stuttgart, with whom she was also heard as a soloist in numerous film, CD and radio recordings under the direction of Frieder Bernius, was artistically formative. She is also a member of the Vocalensemble Rastatt (Director: Holger Speck). |
