Tchaikovsky St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra was founded in the 1950s, by a group of St. Petersburg Music Conservatory graduates, under the name of St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra has undergone many changes since its inception, from changes in its name to leadership. But through all this time it has been developing its repertoire strength and building a devoted audience.
From its very beginning the orchestra successfully performed different music genres, and has received broad acknowledgement and popularity.
From 2001 the orchestra’s principal conductor is Maestro Roman Leontiev. He gave a new impulse to the orchestra's development, and his involvement has caused that a new generation of talented St. Petersburg musicians has joined the ensemble. The orchestra also works regularly with St. Petersburg and foreign soloists.
The orchestra toured Finland and Serbia, North and Latin Americas and Asia. In 2004 the orchestra participated in the 14th International Music Festival in Costa Rica. In 2012 the orchestra was invited to leed the inaugural trans-continental tour to the USA. |
