The chamber choir Trinitatis Kantori is an independent concert choir with a close connection to King Christian IV’s old baroque church, Trinitatis Kirke in Copenhagen. The choir was founded by the conductor, Per Enevold and Inge Bønnerup, the Trinitatis Kirke organist.
Since its presentation concert in 1993, the choir has given many concerts, several of which have been transmitted by Radio Denmark. The Christmas Concert 2000 was transmitted live from the church "Trinitatis Kirke" on December 17 as a part of the EBU (European Broadcasting Union) program of Christmas music. Apart from the concerts in "Trinitatis Kirke", the choir also performs in other parts of Denmark and abroad.
The choir has taken part in choir festivals in the Czech Republic and Italy. In October 1999, the choir went on a tour to Japan, performing four concerts in Tokyo, and in September 2001 the Trinitatis Kantori was invited to the 7th international festival for chamber choirs "Riga Dimd 2001" in Latvia. In November 1999, the choir represented Denmark in the finals of the EBU choir contest "Let the Peoples Sing '99" - and won the first price in the category for mixed choirs.
Apart from its extensive à capella-repertoire, the Trinitatis Kantori often performs works for choir and organ in cooperation with the organist of Trinitatis Kirke, Inge Bønnerup. Also, the choir has performed a number of J.S. Bach cantatas, the Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248) and St. John’s Passion (BWV 245), as well as W.A. Mozart’s Requiem and C. Monteverdi’s Vespero della Beata Vergine, in co-operation with professional musicians and soloists. Special highlights in the musical career of the Trinitatis Kantori are the performances of J.S. Bach’s Mass in B minor (BWV 232) in March 1997 (a live concert version of this work is available on CD) and St. Matthew’s Passion (BWV 244) in April 2003. The latter was repeated in March 2005.
The Trinitatis Kantori has issued a total of 5 studio-CDs: Two were produced by POINT Records in cooperation with Inge Bønnerup: the first one, ”Kom, lad os juble” (”Come, let us rejoice”) with Danish church music from the early Baroque to newly written works; the other one, ”Lux Aeterna” with an international repertoire of church music - Pablo Casals, Francis Poulenc, Fissinger, Penderecki, La Cour, Holmboe and Per Nørgaard - issued in the spring of 1999. The other three CD's were produced by Classic Records: two CDs with music by Johannes Brahms: ‘Sacred Music’ and ‘Profane Music’ (both 2002), recorded in co-operation with Inge Bønnerup and pianist Ellen Refstrup; and the last CD "Igjennem bøgeskoven" (2003) containing Danish songs, both choral and for soloists, recorded in cooperation with the world famous Danish opera singers Inger Dam-Jensen (soprano) and Morten Ernst Lassen
