UNL Chamber Singers (Vocal Ensemble)

Founded: Fort Collins, Colorado, USA

The UNL Chamber Singers is the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s project-based vocal recital choral ensemble. A small choir of 10-16 voices, it is intended to provide a wonderful repertory choral ensemble experience for the advanced choral enthusiast and made available to our graduate choral conducting students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln plus a few select undergraduats by audition. The ensemble is open to all majors and all grade levels. The choir explores a broad range of repertoire specializing in literature for unaccompanied and contemporary small vocal ensembles including works from early music eras, newly researched works, recital chorus repertoire, and composers from underrepresented communities. They could also regularly premiere new music.

The UNL Chamber Singers have been privileged to perform for and work with many guest conductors and composers including Ola Gjeilo, André Thomas, Mack Wilberg, Doreen Rao, William Hatcher, and Eph Ehly, and in performance collaboration with The American Boychoir. They specialize in performing concerts in beautiful and unique spaces including the Sheldon Museum of Art's Great Hall, St. Mark's on the Campus, the International Quilt Museum, and the State Capitol Rotunda. Many of their members have served as the core vocal ensemble for UNL's 'Bach's Lunch' held in the nearby campus student chapel on select class days at noon.

Membership in the Chamber Singers is determined by audition at the start of each semester and the auditions will be concurrent with the historic flagship choral ensemble, University Singers.

The current Director of UNL Chamber Singers is Dr. Pete Eklund.
