The German mezzo-soprano, Anke Vondung, took piano instruction for 8 years, since 1986 with the concert pianist Werner Schmitt. Starting from 1988 she had singing instruction and studied since 1994 with Professor Rudolf Piernay at the Musikhochschule in Mannheim. She also took courses with Renato Capecchi, Robin Bowman, Cornelius Reid, Julia Hamari, Brigitte Fassbaender, Daniel Ferro, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Martin Katz, among others.
In 1998, Anke Vondung sang the role of Cecilio in W.A. Mozart’s Lucio Silla in the course of an international project of the European Opera Centre, under the direction of Brigitte Fassbaender. Anke Vondung's prizes and awards include 2nd prize: Schubert and the Music of the Twentieth Century; 1st prize: Robert Saar Song Competition; 1st prize: International Hans Gabor Belvedere Competition; 3rd prize: International ARD Music Competition; 1st prize: German National Song Competition; 1st prize: Mendelssohn-Bartholdy Competition (1999).
In 1999 Anke Vondung was engaged by the Tiroler Landestheater in Innsbruck. She made her debuts at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris in the role of Hänsel in Engelbert Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel and at the Munich State Opera in the role of Siebel in Charles Gounod’s Faust.
Anke Vondung also performs the lied repertory. Amongst the many conductors she has worked with are Helmuth Rilling, Sir Roger Norrington, Philippe Herreweghe, Edo de Waart, Gerd Albrecht, Wolfgang Gönnenwein, Peter Schreier, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Fabio Luisi and Howard Arman. She participated in the 2002 Salzburg Festival and Mozart-Festwochen. She will sing the role of Fyodor in Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov at the Opéra-Bastille in 2003.
Anke Vondung lives in Dresden, and is a member of the Dresden State Opera since 2003.
