Founded in 1912, the Wiener Lehrer-a cappella-Chor (= WLCC, WLACH) has enjoyed numerous concert successes and has received great recognition both at home and abroad. The choir currently has more than 75 members and can therefore also perform larger choral-orchestral works.
Since January 2014, the artistic direction of the choir has been in the hands of Maximilian Opll, whose central concern is the further development of the choir in the a capella area without having to forego the tradition of concerts with orchestral accompaniment.
For decades the choir has performed in the most prestigious venues in Vienna, such as Goldenen Musikvereinssaal or the Mozartsaal of the Wiener Konzerthaus. In addition to the concerts in Austria, the Wiener Lehrer-a cappella-Chor regularly undertakes concert tours. Tours have already taken the choir to cities in Europe and overseas. Amsterdam, Budapest, Dresden, Dublin, Florence, Krakow, Leipzig, London, New York, Paris, Riga and Rome have been visited, among others. In 2009 the choir was awarded the Ferdinand Grossmann Prize.
The choir's repertoire is wide-ranging and ranges from Renaissance madrigals and motets, which can be sparsely scored, to great oratorios, spirituals and contemporary pop music, as well as folk songs from all over the world. The choir singers are specifically encouraged through individual and choral voice training. |
