The Swedish recorder player, Kristine West, graduated from Falun Conservatoire of Music (Musikkonservatoriet Falun) in Sweden (2005-2007). Since 2007, she studied recorder and Baroque flute under the guidance of Dan Laurin, Björg Ollén and Clas Pehrsson at the the Royal College of Music (Kungliga Musikhögskolan) in Stockholm, where she obtained her Bachelor of Music (2010) and her Master of Music degree (2012). She attended master-classes in Baroque flute for Barthold Kuijken and Marc Hantaï. She also studied Swedish folk music at Royal College of Music in Stockholm for one year , and world music with Ale Möller for 2 months. Her scholarships include: The Royal Swedish Academy of Music National Scholarships, maximum amount (2014); The Swedish Arts Grants Committee Artist scholarship, within both the fields of Early Music and Folk Music (2014, 2016 & 2017); Swedish Arts Council - fonogram support for the album ”Recorder” (2016); Swedish Performing Arts Agency Project grants (2017). She has won fine scholarships from The Royal Swedish Academy of Music and Swedish Arts Grants Committee, among others. Her awards include: Winner of the chamber music price in the youth competition ”Musik Direkt” (2008); “Grand Prix”, and a special award in Stockholm International Music Competition (2010); Finalist in Yamaha Scandinavia competition for wind instrumentalists 2012, Oslo, Norway (2012); Final in the Chamber Music Biennial Ung&Lovande (2013; Winner of NORDEM’s ensemble competition Ear-Ly, Reykjavik, Iceland with the two ensembles Bastard Baroque and Ensemble Flautino (2014). Winner with Bastard Baroque, Final in Ear-Ly 2016 as a soloist.
Since finishing her studies, Kristine West has been working as a freelance musician. She has been active in a number of her own ensembles, touring as a soloist as well, and participated in numerous orchestral productions together with Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble, among others. She has been giving concerts in all the Nordic countries, Germany, The Netherlands, Turkey a.o. She has several times performed as a soloist with orchestra under her own guidance and with concert masters as Rachel Podger (August 2015).
In April 2016, Kristine West released her debut album "Recorder", and in the beginning of 2017 she came out with a second album - Flute Sonatas by J.S. Bach. |
