The American choral conductor and bass-baritone, Conor Whalen, obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Music from Murray State University in Kentucky (August 2014-May 2018); and his Masters of Music degree in Conducting from Boston Conservatory at Berklee (2018-2020).
Currently based in Los Angeles, Conor Whalen is an experienced conductor with a demonstrated history of working in the music industry. Skilled in conducting, opera, orchestral music, choral music, and singing; strong arts and design professional. He has served as the assistant conductor for the Newburyport Choral Society (August 2018-July 2020), Boston Conservatory at Berklee Opera (January 2019-August 2021), and OperaNEO in San Diego (May 2019-August 2020). Recently, his conducting credits include working on productions of Britten's Turn of the Screw, Tom Cipullo’s Glory Denied, Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, Rossini’s La Cenerentola, and Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin.
Conor Whalen made his European conducting debut in 2021, conducting the Morovian Philharmonic in a performance of Dvorak's Symphony 7. He has also appeared in master-classes with Maestro Charles Olivieri-Munroe and Alice Parker. In 2021, he was invited to compete in Budapest, Hungary in the Anal Doráti International Conducting Competition, and to participate in the Olivieri Conducting Masterclass in Olomouc, Czech Republic.
Conor Whalen is Co-founder and first Music & Artistic Director of Conejo Valley Choral Society (CVCS) in Thousand Oaks, California, USA (June 2022-June 2025). This is a non-profit choral society for amateur musicians to come together and perform choral-orchestral masterworks alongside professionals. He has also been Director of Choral Programs at Chaminade College Preparatory in West Hills, California (since June 2023); Choir Director at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in, Thousand Oaks, California (since July 2023). Since July 2025, he is Chorus Master & Cover Conductor at Bozeman Symphony Orchestra & Symphonic Choir.
Conor Whalen has also been Bass section leader at Temple Isaiah - Lexington, MA (September 2019-2020); Bass section leader at Parish of the Epiphany (September 2019-August 2020); Director of Choral Activities at Chaminade College Preparatory High School in West Hills (August 2023-June 2025).
Conor Whalen has also worked at Santander Bank, N.A.: Teller in Boston (May 2020-January 2021); Relationship Banker in Newton, Massachusetts (since January 2021). He married the soprano Mandy Bryant on July 17, 2025, and currently lives in Los Angeles, California. |
