The Polish-born soprano, Łucja Zarzycka, grew up learning piano and violin and then went on to pursue singing at the Academy of Music in Cracow and transferred to the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden, Germany. Numerous master-classes with Teresa Żylis-Gara, Brigitte Fassbaender, Edith Mathis, Anna Reynolds, John Cox and Elisabeth Schwarzkopf allowed her to grow vocally and artistically.
Lucja Zarzycka sang in Helmuth Rilling’s Bach Academy (J.S. Bach’s h-moll Messe (BWV 232), Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248)), had intensive co-operation with the distinguished ensemble Lautten Compagney Berlin, and in concerts under Howard Arman and Hans-Christoph Rademann. She sang in Antonio Caldara‘s Dafne and W.A. Mozart ‘s Die Schuldigkeit des ersten Gebots during the international Wratislavia Cantans Festival in Wrocław.
Because of her success as Fiordiligi in a Hochschule production of W.A. Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte, Łucja Zarzycka was invited to be a soloist at the Semperoper in Dresden. There she sang as a lyric soprano in numerous roles with many distinguished conductors such as Sir Colin Davis, John Fiore, Marcello Viotti and Giuseppe Sinopoli and worked with stage directors including Harry Kupfer, Udo Samel, and Hans Hollmann.
Łucja Zarzycka enchants her audience with a uniquely beautiful voice distinguished by its warmth, splendour and vigour. With impressive passion and dedication, she masters roles that put the highest demands on a singer – Abigaille, Aida, Forza Leonore, Isolde. Voice teacher Neil Semer (New York) recognized her outstanding vocal abilities. After Łucja Zarzycka’s transition into the dramatic repertoire under his mentoring, she thrilled audiences as Abigaille in Verdi’s Nabucco at the Altenburg-Gera Theatre, the State Theatre Braunschweig and the National Theatre in Weimar. In 2007 she captivated her home country’s audience in this role in the National Opera in Warsaw, for whom she has sung for many years.
Another important role - Puccini’s Tosca was also met with enthusiasm at the Krakow Opera as well as Altenburg-Gera, in Dresden (Landesbühnen Sachsen) and at numerous festivals. After her success as Abigaille at the National Opera in Warsaw, she invited back to sing Verdi’s Aida. She was also acclaimed for this role in the State Theatre in Cottbus where she also create the role of Leonore in Verdi’s La Forza del Destino, which she played successfully in Frankfurt/O as well.
Łucja Zarzycka also sings much German Opera repertoire. Leonore from L.v. Beethoven’s Fidelio (Landesbühnen Sachsen) was done with outstanding vocal ability and psychological depth. Zarzycka became a highlight of national and international opera galas with fragments from Wagner’s Götterdämmerung (Brünnhilde) and Tristan und Isolde (Isolde).
Łucja Zarzycka is a sought after concert singer. Under renowned conductors she sang Camille Saint-Saëns’ Oratorio de Noël at the Berlin Philharmonie, Verdi’s Requiem in the Musikhalle Hamburg, Tonhalle in Zürich, and in Basel, Bruckner’s F minor Mass, Georges Bizet‘s Te Deum, and Rossini’s Stabat Mater, La Petite Messe Solennelle at Lake Constance, and Dvorak’s Stabat Mater in the Musikhalle in Hamburg. Her performance of songs by Rudolf Mauersberger during a concert in the Zwinger in Dresden, was broadcast live by the Central German Broadcasting Radio (MDR).
For many years Łucja Zarzycka has also engaged herself with enormous enthusiasm in the education of young professional singers. She now resides in Germany. |
