The Mexican tenor, Baltazar Zúñiga, began in 1998 has artistic career as soloist in concert and operatic repertoire in Mexico, Italy and Nord Europe. He studied singing at the Scuola Superiore di Musica dell’Istituto Nazionale delle Belle Arti (Superior School of Music of the National Institute of Fine Arts) in Mexico City ((I.N.B.A)). From 1998 to date he has made recital of vocal chamber music and German Lieder in Mexico, New York, Germany and Italy. In 1998 and 1999 he started his career as an opera singer in Mexico in the role of Tamino in W.A. Mozart’s Magic Flute, Count Almaviva in Rosini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia; during that time he has participated in Japan at the Pacific Musica Festival singing in the most important concerts halls of Sapporo with important conductors as Nicholas McGegan and Simon Shauten. He studied also with Francisco Araiza, Carmo Barbosa, Carmen Bustamante, Zeger Vandersteene, Juliana Gondek, Irwing Gage, Alberto Zedda, Gloria Banditelli, and Roberto Balconi.
In 2000 Baltazar Zúñiga moved to Italy to study bel canto and early music repertoire with Gioacchino Zarrelli, Michael Aspinal and William Matteuzzi at “Accademia del Teatro Città di Cagli” and debuted in 2001 at Rossini Opera Festival (R.OF) in the Rossini’s opera Il Viaggio a Reims conducted by Antonino Fogliani, continued the debuts of the role of Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi by G. Puccini (December 2000), Ferrando in Così fan tutte and Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni by W.A. Mozart, Foleville in Il Signor Bruscchino by G.Rossini, Lurcanio in Ariodante by George Frideric Handel and th role of Rodolfo in La Bohéme by G.Puccini.
By 2001 Baltazar Zúñiga began a carrer in Italy in operatic repertoire and began to participate as a soloist singing oratorios, symphonic reprtoire and sacred music with important orchestras in Italy. In the same years he began to specialize in early muisc with important musicians as Gustav Leonhardt, Michael Radulescu, Gloria Banditelli and Francesco Cera. In 2007 he won the international competition for the 400 anniversary of Monteverdi’s Orfeo in Mantua singing the role of Orfeo at Theatre Bibiena.
From 2001 Baltazar Zúñiga appeared as a soloist with the Orchestra Sinfonica di Pesaro, La Orchestra Pro-Arte Marche and Sinfonica Marchigiana in oratorio and sacred repertoire. In June 2001 he participated as a soloist in the Messa Jubilaei with Maestro Domenico Bartolucci conducting the Orchestra Sinfonica di Pesaro in Pesaro, Urbino and Rome, published also on CD. In August 2001 he also participated in staging of the opera Il Viaggio a Reims by Rossini in the roles of Zeferino and Jasmine at the Rossini Opera Festival Rossini participating at the same time at the the Accademia Rossiniana preparing and perfecting some roles with Maestro Alberto Zedda. In June 2002 he participated at the Festival dell’Accademia del Teatro in Cagli in the role of Florville in Il Signor Bruschino by G. Rossini.
In 2003 Baltazar Zúñiga debuted the role of Testo in Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda by Claudio Monteverdi and the role of Ferrando in Cosi fan tutte by W.A. Mozart at the Accademia Opera Festival in Cagli (Italy). A Macerata he debuted the role of Leandro in the first performance in modern times the work L’amore Ingegnoso by G. Paisiello at the theaters in Matelica, Pollenza, Arezzo and Tolentino and in December 2003 he opened the concert season in Fermo with debut the role of Nemorino in L'Elisir d'Amore by Donizetti, receiving great reviews from critics. He debuted in the symphonic repertoire with solo part in Carmina Burana by Carl Orff at the Festival di Todi con L‘Orchestra Internazionale d‘Italia.
In 2004 Baltazar Zúñiga debuted the role of Ferrando in Cosi fan tutte by W.A. Mozart at the Teatro Rossini in Pesaro and the roles of Rodolfo in Bohème by Puccini at the Teatro Comunale of Cagli, and at the Camy Hall in New York he debuted the same year the role of Lurcanio in Ariodante by G.F. Handel at Festival dell’Accademia del Teatro in Cagli. In June 2004 he sang at the Emiglia Romagna Festival in the opera La Canterina by J. Haydn and the oratorio La Pasion by Perti. In 2005 he debuted the roles of Don Ottavio in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni and the role of Count Almaviva at the Teatro Amaya in Irun in northern Spain. His latest debut was in the role of Belmonte in W.A. Mozart's Abduction from the Seraglio at the theaters of Premeno and Cortina in the north of Italy.
Currently Baltazar Zúñiga works with European ensembles of early music: Accademia Bizantina, Concerto Romano, Arìon Choir & Consort, Arte Musica, L’Arte dell’Arco, La Stagione Armonica, De Labyrintho, La Capella di Cremona, La Capella di San Petronio di Bologna, Orchestra da Camera di Mantova, I Musicali Affetti, La Venexiana (Director: Claudio Cavina), Collegium Vocale Gent and Ensemble Pulcinella, singing in the most important festivals of early music in Europe and America: Bruge, Europalia, Lufthansa Festival, Early Music Festival Istanbul, Early Music Festival Postdam, Ravenna Festival, Salzburg Festival, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Anima Mundi Pisa, Chopin Festival Varsavia, Festival Accademia Chigiana Siena, Festival di Hannover, Emilia Romagnia Festival, Festival Monteverdi di Cremona, Casa della Musica di Parma, Alte Musik Melk and others.
Baltazar Zúñiga collaborates with conductors: Luciano Acocella, Marc Andrè, Sergio Balestracci. Fabrizio Bastianini, Filippo Maria Bresan, Piretro Borgonovo, Michele Brescia, Frans Brüggen, Claudio Cavina, Francesco Cera, Vito Clemente, Ottavio Dantone, Paolo Faldi, Diego Fasolis, Luca Ferrara, Antonino Fogliani, Philippe Herreweghe, Gustav Leonhardt, Nicholas McGegan, Umberto Benedetti Michelangeli, Riccardo Muti, Enrico Onofri, Cinzia Pennesi, Alessandro Quarta, Michael Radulescu, Aldo Salvagno, Stefano Seghedoni, Claudio Vaglieri, and Alberto Zedda. He has worked with the directors Emilio Sagi, Elisabetta Courrir, Enrico de Feo and Dario Fo.
