The American choral conductor, composer and teacher, Donald R. Frederick, was the son of John D. and Maud Moyer Frederick. He earned a bachelor's degree at Manchester College in Indiana, a master's degree in music from Northwestern University, and a master's of divinity degree from Bethany Theological Seminary in Elgin, Ill. He moved to Lawrence in 1995.
Donald Frederick was a professor of choral music at McPherson College for 28 years. He also served as the minister of music for the McPherson Church of the Brethren for 40 years. He was an accomplished composer, and had published more than 100 pieces of choral, instrumental and hand-bell music. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lawrence, and a 40-year member of the Church of the Brethren in McPherson.
Donald R. Frederick married Faye Teach on August 11, 1940, in Brookville, Ohio. She was a piano teacher, church organist and a member of a handbell choir. Donald died on July 25, 2000, at a Lawrence hospital His wife survives. Other survivors include two sons, Dennes R. Frederick, Kingston Springs, Tenn., and Joel E. Frederick, Lawrence; two daughters, Susan F. Ralston and Carol F. McFall, both of Lawrence; a brother, Carlyle Frederick, Nappannee, Ind.; a sister, Helen Kauffman Henry, Goshen, Ind.; and six grandchildren. |
