The Bach-Chor Bremerhaven, founded in 1963 by Kantor Gerd Reinfeldt, is an interdenominational and interregional choir community. As a choir at the Bürgermeister-Smidt-Gedächtniskirche, the central church of Seestadt, it emphasizes the artistic objectives in his work and sees itself as an essential part of the cultural life in Bremerhaven, in which their performances are an integral part of Bremerhaven's musical life. In addition to the musical accompaniment in church services, the choir performs several times a year in the Großen Kirche.
Cantatas, passions and oratorios by J.S. Bach form the foundation of the musical repertoire of the choir, which has around 80 members, the content and musical scope of which is constantly being expanded to include classical works and a large number of romantic choral works. It also includes 20th century compositions. The Bremerhaven premiere of Ralph Vaughan Williams' Sea Symphony on the occasion of Sail 2000 should be highlighted - and continued in 2010.
Symphony concerts in the Stadttheater and concerts in the Großen Kirche - in close cooperation with the Philharmonischen Orchester Bremerhaven - are not uncommon. Associated with this is an ever increasing quality of the choir, which is also recognized outside of Bremerhaven and the Federal Republic. Significant works of choral literature are presented in several concerts a year.
An unconventional setting is often chosen for the concerts: on composer nights there is a cross-section of the entire oeuvre, e.g. B. in "A Night for W.A. Mozart" (1991), Felix Mendelssohn (1993), Schubert (1997), Robert Schumann (1998). The Bremerhaven New Year's Concerts have played a major role in Bremerhaven's concert life since 1995. Under the title "Aus Oratorium, Konzert & Oper" (From Oratorio, Concert & Opera), an original musical mixture sounded until 2013 on January 1 of each year at 5 pm, in which the choir set the tone. In 2007 the program was expanded to include the promenade concert, which took place annually until September 2012.
Cordt-Wilhelm Hegerfeldt was Director of the Bach-Chor Bremerhaven from 1965 to 1976. The direction of the choir from 1979 to 2013 was in the hands of Kantor Werner Dittmann, who died in May 2013. After his death, the church musician Rui Ferreira provisionally supervised church music at the Großen Kirche until August 31, 2014 and directed the Bach Choir Bremerhaven and the Singkreis of the community. In September 2014, David Schollmeyer took up the position of full-time A-Kantor of the Großen Kirche and as Director of the Bach-Chor Bremerhaven. |
