Martin Kondziella (Choral Conductor, Organ)

Born: 1969 - Erfurt, Thuringia, Germany

The German choral conductor and organist, Martin Kondziella, studied piano with Friedrich Macher at the Hochschule für Musik "Franz Liszt" in Weimar. He also studied church music there with Johannes Schäfer, Rainer Böhme, Werner Pfaff (choral conducting), and Bernhard Klapprott (historical performance practice). He holds an Artist Diploma in Piano, a Master's degree in Church Music (A-Diploma), and a concert diploma in organ performance. Master-classes with, among others, Jürgen Uhde, Ton Koopman, Ferdinand Klinda, and Wolfgang Seifen furthered his training. In choral conducting, Kent Tritle in New York, the vocal physiology research of Professor Dr. Bernhard Richter, and an intensive collaboration with the British Renaissance specialist Michael Procter provided him with groundbreaking inspiration.

As an organist, Martin Kondziella has given countless organ concerts worldwide and recorded several CD's. He has also overseen various restoration and new organ construction projects. Since 2019, he has been the titular organist of the large Steinmeyer organ at the Kirche Ss. Corpus Christi in Berlin. He played a key role in the rediscovery and restoration of this instrument from 2000 to 2018. He currently serves as Regional Church Musician in Sonthofen/Allgäu.

In addition to all this, Martin Kondziella paints and draws, collaborates with a Prague-based company on refining Hauptwerk sample sets, and dedicates himself to computer graphics and poster design. He also typeset music where suitable editions are unavailable, records audio and video, and edits and produces recordings. He currently lives in Sonthofen.
