The Scottish Soprano, Electra Lochhead, began her musical education at St Mary’s Music School in Edinburgh (September 2005-June 2014) and as a chorister for four years in St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral where she became head chorister in her last year. She continued to focus on her vocal training under Susan Hamilton for a further nine years until October 2015, where she was awarded a place to study at the internationally renowned Mozarteum University in Salsburg, Austria under Professor Elisabeth Wilke (since Octobe 2015).
Electra Lochhead takes part in a variety of concerts, most notably as a soloist with the Dunedin Consort (Director: John Butt) and is included on their recording of George Frideric Handel’s Esther. In 2013 she performed her first operatic role as Papagena in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte with Opera Camerata. She was a finalist in the 2014 Edinburgh Competition Festival concerto class performing W.A. Mozart’s Ch’io mi scordi di te in the Queen’s Hall, Edinburgh.
Solo engagements include Bachianas Brasileiras No 5 by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Dido in Dido and Aeneas, George Frideric Handel’s Messiah in Munich, Robert Schumann's Die Paradies und die Peri and Felix Mendelssohn's Psalm 42 and Paulus. More recently, in November 2017, she sang as a guest soloist with the Münchener Bach-Chor (Director: Hansjörg Albrecht) in the MuPa, Budapest. She sings regularly as a part of BachWerkVokal Salzburg (Director: Gordon Safari) and recently shone on stage in the role of Maria Magdalena in G.F. Handel's La Resurrezione where her voice was described as ‘’Angelic, for which there is no earthy weight, no technical boundaries, not even the need to breathe. The young soprano currently studying at the Mozarteum has a voice you have to remember, a veritable discovery.’’ Closer to home she has performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for the last three years with the Bach Ensemble of Edinburgh (2015-2018). She performed at Christ Church in Llanwarne accompanied by Valerie Tomalin and Shirley Coates for an evening of fine music in September 2018. She currently lives in Salzburg, Austria. |
