Bach Choir & Orchestra of the Netherlands (Choir & Orchestra)

Founded: 1994 / 2006 - The Netherlands

The Bach Orchestra of the Netherlands (founded 1994) consists of musicians specializing in the performance of Baroque music. These dedicated musicians play authentic instruments from this style period, resulting in a distinctive timbre for the Baroque orchestra. The orchestra's tuning is a semitone lower than that of a modern orchestra: A=415Hz instead of A=440Hz.

In performances of W.A. Mozart's Requiem, among others, authentic instruments from the Classical style period are also played. Their tuning is A=430Hz. Traditional performances of J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion BWV 244 have become the most popular in the Netherlands, attracting 30,000 visitors annually.

The Bach Choir of the Netherlands (founded 2006) is one of the leading choirs in the international performance of early music. The enormous flexibility of both musicians and singers contributes to the wide variety of programming. J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion BWV 244 transitions effortlessly to W.A. Mozart's Requiem, and both Allegri's world-famous Misereri mei and Gabriel Fauré's Requiem display the same musical flexibility.

The concerts demonstrate a deep commitment from the musicians and singers, who deliver performances that are vibrant, full of emotion and spirituality, and with an unparalleled loyalty to the compositions being performed.
