Giovanni Petterlini (Conductor)

Born: Verona, Veneto, Italy

The Italian conductor, Giovanni Petterlini, graduated in Musicology at the Università di Bologna; he taught History of Music at the Liceo Classico ‘S. Maffei’ and the Liceo Scientifico ‘G. Galilei’ in Verona. Alongside his musicological studies, he also studied art, graduating in Conducting, Composition, Piano, Choral Music and Choir Conducting at the Conservatories of Parma, Trento, Brescia and Verona under the guidance of maestros P. Veneri, R. Bonizzato, R. Dionisi, A. Franceschini. He perfected his skills in piano with A. Kouyoumdjian, in choir conducting with Simon Carrington and in orchestral conducting at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf with R. Bohn; he participated in conducting master-classes held by E. Inbal, U. Benedetti Michelangeli, N. Thomson, M. Caldi.

Giovanni Petterlini has conducted the Orchestra I Virtuosi Italiani, Orchestra Filarmonica Italiana, Orchestra Neue Philharmonie Westfalen, Orchestra dell’Accademia Musicale di Schio, performing symphonic choral repertoire - including the great W.A. Mozart's Mass in C minor K427, G. Rossini's tabat Mater, Gabriel Fauré's Requiem, Felix Mendelssohn's Lauda Sion - and Baroque repertoire including J.S. Bach's Magnificat in D major BWV 243, George Frideric Handel's Dettingen Te Deum and Dixit Dominus. As Director of the Coro Marc'Antonio Ingegneri of Verona, he has participated in artistic productions under the direction of A. Bernard and Filippo Maria Bressan and has collaborated with the Accademia Filarmonica di Verona, Fondazione Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, Associazione Veneta Amici della Musica Pontificio Istituto di Musica Sacra a Roma.

Giovanni Petterlini received awards at the 42nd edition of the ‘Città di Vittorio Veneto’ Choral Competition - 2nd prize, at the V Festival della Coralità Veneta - Excellence Band, and at the Concorso di composizione ‘Rosolini Toscano’ in Pescara - 2nd prize; his orchestrations have been performed at the Teatro Ponchielli in Cremona for the Fondazione del Teatro, in Trento for the Società Filarmonica, at the Teatro Comunale in Vicenza for the Società del quartetto, in the Sala Grande dell’Accademia di musica in Basel (Seitzerland). In 2016 he published the volume Da Nietzsche a Reger. L’estetica musicale tra crisi e creatività (From Nietzsche to Reger. Musical aesthetics between crisis and creativity) at the QuiEdit publishing house. He is a tenured piano teacher at the ‘M. Mazza’ secondary school with a musical focus in Verona.
