Asia Safikhanova (Flute)

Born: Russia

The Russian flautist, Asia Safikhanova (Russian: Ася Сафиханова), studied the flute at Gnessin Music School (1996-2009). She obtained her Diploma in Diploma with honour in flute, and Baroque transverse flute from Moscow P. I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory (2009-2014). Since 2008, she has been increasingly interested in historical performance practice. She not only plays the modern flute, but also the baroque transverse flute and the classic 8-key Grenser flute. She obtained her Master of Arts dergree in Trasverse Flute from Folkwang Hochschule (2014-2015); and her Master degree in Baroque transverse flute from Folkwang Hochschule (2015-2017). Since February 2016, she studied concert flute / piccolo at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main with Thaddeus Watson and completed her Master's degree in Baroque transverse flute with Professor Karl Kaiser in October 2019.

In 2012, Asia Safikhanova played as Artist of contemporary ensemble (flute + piccolo) at the Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow in the premiere of opera Franziskus by Sergei Newski with the Chamber orchestra "Questa Musica" conducted by Filipp Chizhevsky. From February 2012 to May 2014, she was the flautist of Perm Opera & Balett Theater | Orchester "MusicAeterna" (Ural region, Russia) under the direction of the renowned Greek conductor Teodor Currentzis. As part of this collaboration, she contributed to CD recordings "Sound of Light" with music by Jean-Philippe Rameau (2014) and a CD with Sacre du printemps by Igor Stravinsky for the Sony Classical and participated in worldwide concerts and festivals. In May-June 2015, she was Invited musician of the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, playing in Verdi's Traviata with Rolando Villazón (regisseur) and Balthasar-Neumann Ensemble conducted by Pablo Heras-Cassado. She was also invited as a guest musician by the Balthasar-Neumann Ensemble, Gürzenich-Orchester Köln, HR-Sinfonieorchester (Frankfurt) and other collectives. In November 2017, she presented the virtuoso flute concerto by Jacques Ibert with the Hochschulorchester under the direction of Vassilis Christopoulos in the Sendesaal. The concert took place as part of the “Frankfurt auf Französisch” series of events.

Since May 2019, Asia Safikhanova has played Flute / Piccolo / Historical flutes as guest musician with Orchester MusicAeterna conducted by Teodor Currentzis at Luzern Festival (Switzerland), Dyagilev Festival (Perm', Ural, Russia) and concerts in Wiener Konzerthaus, Moscow, Petersburg, etc. She has been solo flautist at the Rudolstadt Theater since September 2019. She is principal flute of the Thüringer Symphoniker since October 2019. Together with the ensemble Musica ex Tempora she performs in Germany, France and Russia.

Since November 2016, Asia Safikhanova has been funded by the Yehudi Menuhin Stiftung "Live Music Now" Frankfurt am Main e.V. She is a scholarship holder of the Peter Fuld Stiftung and the Giovanni Omodeo Stiftung.
