The father of the German soprano, Regina Werner-Dietrich, was a Kapellmeister. For ten years she received piano training, and studied from 1964 to 1968 at the Leipzig Thomas School. At the same time she began with singing studies. She became then a pupil of Eva Butcher at the Music College of Leipzig. In 1972 she won a prize at the International Bach Competition in Leipzig.
In 1973 Regina Werner received a teaching job at the Leipzig Music College and was from 1974 to 1987 a soloist there in concerts at the Gewandhaus. She began then also a successful stage career. From 1975 to 1977 and again since 1989 she had a contract as a guest with the Comic Opera Berlin, and since 1979 she made guest appearances at the Theatre of Halle (Saale). Since 1986 she appeared regularly at the Opera Houses of Leipzig and Karl Marx City (Chemnitz). In 1987 she was appointed as a lecturer in the College of Music Leipzig.
Very successful concert tours brought Regina Werner to Russia, Poland, the Soviet Unions, Bulgaria, Romania, Korea and Finland, Holland and Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, Spain and Portugal, Japan, West Germany, Austria and Hungary. She sang on the concert podium a rich repertoire, from works of J.S. Bach (Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244), Johannes-Passion (BWV 245), Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248), B minor Mass (BWV 232) and numerous Cantatas), George Frideric Handel (Messiah, Semele, Saul, Alexanderfest), Haydn (The Creation, The Seasons, Masses), W.A. Mozart (Masses, Requiem), Johannes Brahms (German Requiem), A. Dvorák (Requiem, Stabat Mater), Felix Mendelssohn (Eliah), Debussy, Gustav Mahler (Lieder from Des Knaben Wunderhorn, 4th Symphony), Dmitri Shostakovich, A. Diepenbrock (Te Deum) and Carl Orff (Carmina Burana). In addition she was an outstanding Lieder singer, who showed wide versatility also in this area. Her important stage roles included Susanna is W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, Bastienne in W.A. Mozart's Bastien und Bastienne, Queen of the Night in W.A. Mozart's Zauberflöte, Marzelline in Fidelio, Gilda in Rigoletto, Adele in Fledermaus by J. Strauss and Sophie in Rosenkavalier by R. Strauss.
Regina Werner appeared in radio and television broadcasts. Recordings: on the label Eterna (Messiah, The Creation, Cantatas of J.S. Bach).
Regina Werner is also an acclaimed voice teacher.
