The German soprano, Elisabeth Scholl, grew up in a musical family at Kiedrich, a small town in the Rheingau valley, and began her singing career at the age of 9 when she became member of the boys’choir Kiedricher Chorbuben. She studied musicology and English literature in Mainz and began voice training with Professor Eduard Wollitz, later specializing in Early Music and performance practice at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, studying with Richard Levitt and René Jacobs. She also attended master-classes with Ingrid Bjoner, Helmut Deutsch, Luisa Bosabalian, Ileana Cotrubas and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau.
Since then Elisabeth Scholl has performed as a soloist with conductors as Rolf Beck, Frieder Bernius, Michel Corboz, Marcus Creed, Reinhard GoebelPhilippe Herreweghe, René Jacobs, Konrad Junghänel, Ton Koopman, Sigiswald Kuijken, Philip Pickett, Federico Maria Sardelli, Michael Schneider, Andreas Spering, Mario Venzago, Bruno Weil, and ensembles as Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields, Concerto Köln, Freiburger Barockorchester, Gulbenkian Orchestra, Hannoversche Hofkapelle, Knabenchor Hannover, RIAS-Kammerchor, Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra (Toronto), among others. She has been invited by international festivals such as the Festival Opera Barga, Les jeudis d´été Festival in Colmar, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Händel Festivals in Göttingen and Halle, Helsinki Festival, Händel Festival Karlsruhe, Bachfest Leipzig, Lufthansa Festival of Baroque Music, Lucerne Festival, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, Rheingau Music Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Musik-Festival, Tokyo Summer Festival, Festival van Vlaanderen (Flanders Festival), and the BBC Proms.
Her opera performances include Antonio Vivaldi’s Caio in Ottone in villa, at Aalto-Theater, Essen (Germany, October 2004); Asprano in Motezuma in Barga (Italy) and Düsseldorf (Germany), world premier scenic performance 2005); Manlio in Tito Manlio in Barga (Italy); W.A. Mozart’s Fiordiligi at Festwochen Herrenhausen, Hannover (Germany) and Countess in Essen and at the Festwochen Herrenhausen in Hannover (Germany, Andreas Spering conducting); Clarice in Haydn´s Il mondo della luna at Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, and at Innsbrucker Festwochen (Austria, August 2001, conductor: René Jacobs, director: Karoline Gruber) and Euridice in Haydn´s L´anima del filosofo ossia Orfeo ed Euridice at Schwetzingen Festival (Germany, 2001, conductor: Thomas Hengelbrock, director: Achim Freyer) and Wuppertal (Germany). In 2006-2007 she performed the role of Ceres in Joseph Martin Kraus' opera Proserpina at Wuppertal, and in April 2007 she made her debut at the Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp/Ghent as Donna Elvira in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni.
Elisabeth Scholl appears frequently in Lied recitals and in 2011 performed again with her brother, the counter-tenor Andreas Scholl, at the Rheingau-Musik-Festival and the Weilburger Schloßkonzerte.
Her first Lieder CD was released in October 1999, followed by a solo-CD with operatic scenes and arias of Reinhard Keiser in May 2001. She enjoys editing vocal music from the Baroque and pre-classical era, presenting them in concert as well as on CD. Her solo CD Inferno with world-premier recordings of dramatic cantatas by Alessandro Scarlatti (accompanied by the Italian baroque orchestra Modo Antiquo and Federico Maria Sardelli) has come out in spring 2006 (CPO/SWR).
